The road to Bormio 2,000 leads to one of the best viewpoints overlooking the Bormio valley.

From the town the road climbs ever upwards, with 13 bends covering an elevation gain of 735 metres at a more or less regular gradient. Only at around halfway does the ascent become more difficult, with a maximum gradient of 14%. The ten kilometre route reaches a height of 1,935 metres above sea level.

The road unwinds through Alpine meadows and spruce forests dotted with clearings and pastures. Continuing on up the panorama opens out over the town and the Valdidentro and Valdisotto areas that face the Bormio plain.

This is the setting of two of the oldest sporting traditions in Alta Valtellina: skiing and cycling. The climb ‘to 2,000’ was the highlight of the Giro d’Italia 2004, just as the famous Stelvio piste played centre stage at two ski world championships, and is now a classic fixture on the world cup calendar hosting the downhill ski race every year at the end of December. In short 2,000 is, in all seasons, a splendid location for sports fans: be it on skis or two wheels, fun is guaranteed.
